Past Ogeechee President Teaching in Africa
Vic Carpenter, our past president and long-time member of the Ogeechee Audubon Society, and his wife Charlotte, are spending a year in Kenya, teaching. He is finding time to see the birds of Africa, and will be sending articles for the newsletter. He stated he has been to the Maasai Mara National Park and truly enjoyed photographing elephants, buffalo, a rhino, hippos, a leopard, a cheetah, lions, giraffes, hyenas, a jackal, impalas, wildebeests, dik-diks, Thompson’s gazelles, Grant’s gazelles, hartebeests, and elands.
Vic sent an email on December 1, saying that the first term had ended and that he and Charlotte were going to Mombasa for a week of relaxation. He also said that he had seen the following birds:
Beautiful Sunbird, Blackcap, Common House Martin, Yellow White-eye, Village Indigobird, African Dusky Flycatcher, Lanner Falcon, and Red-fronted Parrot.
He stated that the internet service was not reliable and it was hard to send emails.
