2011 CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNTS

Hello birders --  Here are the dates for this season’s Christmas Bird Counts in the Savannah area:

Harris Neck CBC – Friday, Dec. 16

This area includes Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge, Melon Bluff, Hampton Island, Townsend, Retreat, and the Medway, Barbour and Newport Rivers.  We especially need birders who have access to a boat for surveying the waterways.  And, as usual, we are looking for people who can scribe (keep the checklists) and drive.  So please feel free to invite friends and family to participate if tHhey are interested.

Savannah Area CBC – Monday, Jan. 2, 2012

This day will be a holiday for most workers, so we are hoping you will be able to join us.  We cover just about all of metro Savannah plus Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, parts of Jasper County, SC, and several of the islands east of Savannah.  This count always epitomizes urban birding at its best.  And we hope to have a countdown dinner again this year – always a great ending to a long day in the field.

Please let me know if you plan to participate in one or both counts as soon as you know your schedule.  There is a $5.00 fee to participate.
